The Year of…
…the entrepreneur? Many media outlets are claiming this, but if you talk to folks working for them selves, every day of every year is the time of the entrepreneur. DC is gaining momentum as a start-up hub and will be a strong contingent at this month’s SXSW Interactive Festival. Back home in the capital, the city’s universities see an industry on the rise and are reshaping their own offerings to better serve the region. We interviewed some local university presidents about DC tech entrepreneurs and put together a video for InTheCapital.com. Watch it here.

Top Blog Post: Social Media as 90s Grunge Bands
We attempted to start a meme, the internet’s newest neuromarketing sensation. Somewhat a spoof of the recent Social Media Explained Through Donuts meme, we took aim for a more nostalgic angle, matching the some of the biggest bands of the early 90s with a corresponding social networking site.
The meme attempts to bridge the gap between Gen X and Gen Y, but also maybe spur some argument as to the correlations and inclusions. While the meme hasn’t gone viral, it did quadruple traffic on our site the day it was posted.
Read more about it, including explanations of each, here.

Man on the Street Media
Man on the Street DC was asked to put together a web video for a progressive nonprofit’s advocacy efforts against Walmart and Monsanto’s prospective new partnership concerning genetically modified food. We placed a call to local improv troupe Punctual Drunks, to cook up a TMZ parody, reported on this supposed celebrity corporate romance. The video was incredible fun to make, but as happens in the world of advocacy, the campaign decided not to use it in an official capacity. In anycase, we’re still very proud of the work we all did. Plus, for the second time, our home office, Affinity Lab, stars as the setting.
